The first part of this lecture describes what I have understood for years to be the oppression estasblished by patriarchy. Patriarchy is a system of oppression and exploitation, far wider than gender stereotyping, a fundamental (masculinist) values structure that prioritises in a hierarchical way control over life in all its forms. I am sad not to see all the brilliant thinking of women - particularly in the 60's and 70's - apparently forgotten , to be resurected under the names of male thinkers without acknowledgement. Is it still too threatening to assert the spiritual essence of life giving and nurturing motherhood ? Us everyday mothers and Mother Earth . Mother Nature herself?

Good enough, unless 70% of your life is spent earning the permission for the use of the land. Leaving just enough time for serfdom after growing and cooking, lol but not lol.
It's a waste to have a kitchen for every person. But everyone should learn to cook local fresh produce grown without synthetic fertilisers and petro inputs.
There is a strange assumption that the people/community are somehow beaten down and oppressed and enslaved by government and that left to themselves they would make decisions in line with life and moral responsibility. But there are communities of car lovers out there and communities who would love to own lots of land to hunt on etc It's a bit naive to think that people currently are all about justice and ecological balance. Once we have the numbers, the government emergent from new life values will be no longer be antilife and extractive etc
You mentioned Δόξα. This is exactly what we are experiencing right now. A common belief or opinion accepted by all (Socrates or Plato)when it comes to Climate change. The UK is but 0.5% of the global impact, of which domestic heating is a third. So when we increase our manufacturing to insulate the few homes annually that benefit from government subsidies paid by British taxpayers, we expect our carbon output to decrease. This tiny country ain’t going to save this planet from a so called climate change and I don’t believe for one second the rest of the world will. Capitalism is a big engine that requires growth. Manufacturing is very much part of this. So why are you surprised CO2 doesn’t drop? Let’s go back to δόξα. Solar panels, battery vehicles, insulation, even the clothes you’re wearing on that stage etc…. The planet is being ripped apart to extract the elements needed by the human race in the name of Global warming. I’m sure Mother Earth will suffer bigger consequence’s from the ecosystem being destroyed by the futile attempt to reduce global temperatures if we carry on sourcing these elements. But, we can’t. It’s a very big engine now.
th bloody UK in past was responsible for entire countries in the global south to suffer and destroyed what we had for centuries and continue to do so thru ur fake policies of aid now. Shame on your past. But if u guys collectively owned it and decided to do something for it then we r in a better space but then u need vision like Gail and her co founder not a hopeless person like u
Great talk! My take is we need to start thinking positively. The 3 pillars of “Conserve, Restore and Protect” is the mantra. Our planet’s ecosystems the main focus. Humans striving to enact this vision create pride and health. The only time she smiled was when talking about her garden, we want to stay happy and combat the doom and gloom with positive solutions. Instead of 100’s marching, how about hundreds planting trees or cleaning up a waterway. We have the solutions.🥰🌲🌸
Rebellion....just another word for revolution, the overthrowing of the established order with the aim of instituting a revolutionary socialist government !
PROBLEM. i watched the video and followed links to join from the email i received - it only connected me to create an Action Network account and the site search engine did not show any XR - being the change group.
Good question. We seem to be incentivized ----- or trapped into ----- a situation that seems to require the destruction of the future wheat in order to have our daily bread. In other words, our daily survival is an investment in foundational destruction. I am aware of the emissions that take to my workplace, the destructive nature of automobiles and of roads and highways that suffocate the earth, and contribute to the heat island effect. Yet my behavior suggests I demand them. How else will I feed myself and my family? At work, I produce emissions of all sorts in order to produce products of considerable utility and of marginal utility. None are biodegradable. Though some of these products are produced by others with biodegradable materials. The energy we use and the waste we create mean more emissions. What other job would be completely disconnected from such things? What is one to do in order to buy groceries, shelter, and healthcare. I have seen a lot of people who claim concern. My cousin was one. She would not give up her SUV, though. I was in a student environmental group. At the conference if this group, people grabbed wads of paper napkins and disposable containers --- which none apparently tried to reuse --- while we had many speakers talking about how industry and Corporate America needed to change its act. It is easy to always point the finger unless it is pointing at yourself. Individual, personal action is not going to be enough, but it is difficult to take seriously a person who is so concerned about a problem, so long as it ONLY means reorganizing the lives of others.
Why has it taken 5 years for someone from XR to mention degrowth, land rights and capitalism?? Does this mean you will no longer take billionaires money?
But where is the regenerative community? I have made a start many times and in many ways for most of my adult life. But alone I can do nothing, and others remain alienated, fragmented. It needs to come from others too, and I can't make that happen. I know a few, but we are scattered and busy. Where is it?
Life is DNA and RNA based. It evolves through natural selective competition. This caused the evolution of predation, aggression and eventually - intelligence. However, intelligence is a lethal mutation. It has enabled us to continuously iterate and optimise our own self-destruction.
In addition to Gail's thinking, look at the work of Riane Tennenhaus Eisler (born 22 July 1931) a systems scientist and author who writes about the effect of gender politics historically on society. She is most known for her 1987 book The Chalice and the Blade , in which she coined the terms "partnership" and "dominator" paradigms Also look at another systems scientist , Joanna Macy , for the concepts of The Great Turning, the life affirming alternative to Business as Usual and the Great Unraveling. and the understanding of how our emotions can give us power to create the future we need.
Bendells doom mongering is a rocky road, been there, not doing that again, why not focus on practical ways end fossil fuel usage? There are alternatives, many within industry too, environmentalists need to find allies and forge innovative ways forward rather than constant criticsm to be taken serious by the general public, whose support is required for more rapid social change.
Capitalism is bad - ok. But then we have to look at one of the pillars of capitalism: private property. this will have to go too. I notice many folks skip over this and go straight for banks and interest payments. Everyone owning land and gardening would devastate the remaining biodiversity and you can be sure they will still want roads and cars connecting them up to additional maintenance and resources. Ensuring further habitat fragmentation.
I'm looking forward to her trial at Isleworth Crown Court, London, starting on the 30h of October 2023. She needs to be in either a prison or a secure psychiatric hospital, for her own good and the good of the public.
Re 16:07 “We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.” Ursula K. Le Guin
wishful thinking and exhortations dont inspire as much as speakers commonly assume. bte I see as usual once again the BIG GORILLA - overpopulation- is conspicuously absent here.
SHAME no introduction for a casual browser.. No context, who is the speaker, what was the event? ( ok, i missed the brief intro slide). Please can someone add that to a description or pinned comment? very interesting educational inspiring talk. Thanks.
If you think that the separation she promotes will work, think again. The system is on to her. The only thing it fears is population reduction, as it loses markets & cheap labour. It also fears that per capita resources would increase, and that pollution would decrease without anybody having to do a damn thing, other than gird their loins. But we won’t do that. I wrote “Numbers” to explain why not. Good luck ER, when you catch up I will be waiting. kind regards
That's terrible and I feel very sorry for the abuse you are suffering. I am also sorry that there are some mysoginistic idiots trying to forgive the abuse you suffer. They have no idea, probably no feelings either and I expect, they haven't seen the news today and deny that climate change even exists.
That was my initial observation, and it reflects, I think, a deeply depressing reality about our current 'civilization'. I'm in my mid 50s and my generation, but more significantly those in the younger generations, have been almost completely captured by the corporate attention-grabbing machinery of online media. Younger people today conduct a significant portion of their social and intellectual lives via the internet, and it is depressing to witness the highly addictive function of the online platforms used by most people . Of course I am using one of these platforms at this very moment, but I do not own a TV nor watch any mainstream media news (including the Guardian newspaper) because I do not trust it to present an even remotely honest and impartial picture of world events. But I would argue that an overwhelming percentage of younger people have a very limited appreciation of the extent to which they are subject to both explicit as well as highly nuanced or subtle propaganda and mental conditioning. But at least my generation of British people engaged in direct actions when faced with oppressive or dangerous governmental measures. We marched, carried out strikes, in various ways attempted to disrupt 'the machine', and we were part of movements and organisations that sought to defy government policies that we regarded as socially or economically regressive. Nowadays the political engagement of younger people is largely confined to cyberspace, where it can easily be countered and diluted by massive corporate and governmental misinformation, internal propaganda and a bewilderingly confused and confusing array of opinion. So I despair for our future because I have no hope whatsoever that this dispiriting state of affairs can be changed for the better any time soon.
@@Lyra0966 You utterly failed with your "strikes" and "marches" as I utterly failed in my civil disobedience, hunger strikes, multiple arrests and imprisonments. Now I hopelessly watch as the forests burn and the temperatures become unbearable. Soon will come the worldwide crop failures, starvation, and water wars. We failed.
Your point is totally valid, and part of me agrees. And yet... look at Greta Thunberg's ongoing 'Fridays for Future', the attendance of young people at mass climate emergency rallies, the participation of young people in climate movements. Also, young people are deeply involved democratic initiatives in America and elsewhere. Youth are inherently idealistic. I think the focus for recruiting people to push for immediate change in response to the climate/biodiversity crises, along with systemic change to circular, sustainable, economic models, should be youth and older people who may have a little one time to devote to civic pursuits. Those raising young families have less time/ energy. We need more people to stand up and DEMAND our govts ACT to make the changes necessary. We owe it to future generations to at least give it our best efforts.
Ice Cores and other historical data shows NO CORRELATION between carbon and temp. Its like telling someone who is 50lbs over weight, to cut out the sugar in their coffee and ignoring the burgers, pizza, ice cream, beer, chocolate they might also be consuming. YES....sugar is fattening, but just focusing on that is not doing that person a service. Ditto only carbon = temp increase. 🙄
@@user-qi7ot3vn2y Yes, there is some 'recent' correlation (but not if you go back a hundred million years or so, then there is none). CO2 levels seem to rise *before* the temperature rises. It is a consequence, not a cause.
Religion, socialism and environmentalism are the 3 authoritarian ideologies. Atheism and capitalism are the 2 hedonistic ideologies. Religion, socialism and environmentalism all incessantly demand repentance and self flagellation. They all demand others sacrifice. None allows dissent. They all proselytize and demand everyone adopt their values, beliefs and lifestyles. Often followed by threats for those who refuse to submit. Atheists simply claim that there is no God, relax and enjoy life. Capitalists embrace personal liberty, hard work and then celebrates the rewards that this brings. Atheists and capitalists don't make any of the demands from the other 3 ideologies.
@@user-qi7ot3vn2y None of this disputes a single word that I stated. "Capitalists embrace personal liberty, hard work and then celebrates the rewards that this brings." The point is, capitalists don't engage in the authoritarian values that plague religion, socialism and environmentalism. They fully welcome dissent and embrace free speech and personal liberty. They call for the liberation of markets. They don't demand incessant repentance or self flagellation of others. They don't make demands that others live the way they say. They don't proselytize and demand everybody invest and own a business or take risks. Any sacrifice is self-sacrifice in order to create something. Most importantly they celebrate wealth instead of demonizing it and guilt tripping everybody. The mantra of the greedy evil capitalist is a slander born from envy that ignores and invalidates drive and ambition. Capitalism is the celebration of life and everything that it can bring. The other 3 live in the dungeon of guilt and shaming.
@@user-qi7ot3vn2y Nobody is arguing that life is perfect. Here's the simple truth, you either have to build your own house, make your own clothes and grow your own food or you get someone to do it for you. There is no free lunch. There are 3 ways to do this: You put a gun to their head, not recommended and illegal. You use fraud and coercion, not recommended and illegal. Or you incentivize them. But everybody has to work, and capitalists aren't driving around in pickup trucks roping people on the street and forcing them into factories. Anybody can start a business or learn to invest. There is nothing stopping this. Life for workers over history has been extremely poor. But modernization and policy has continuously made life better for workers. Investing gives people the opportunity to improve their lives. I too, worked in a factory. I learned to invest. I no longer work in a factory. I know what life is like for laborers, I lived it. Obviously more needs to be done but none of this counters what I stated. Religion, socialism and environmentalism are all anti human ideologies. They all make the claim that humans are a problem. That they are greedy and a plague and must repent. Capitalism does not promote anti human ideology. It celebrates human accomplishment.
And who said religion is dead well done we have to beleive in some thing there always been someone who think there a bit smarter thank god l can think for myself dream on
Ahhhh, maybe try to tell XR Ireland this?? They've absolutely no empathy nor cooperate. It's either their way or not at all. Particularly Louis, the leader. Dr Gabor Mate said the same thing in his documentary, 'The Wisdom of Trauma'. We're not going to change as a human race.
I agree with Roger completly on a fundamental level, we are on track for extinction! But the problem is complecated! We need petorlem products for: Fertaliser to farm enough food to feed 8 billion people! Plastics that go into making electric cars! The energy to procees the metals needed for the energy transition. etc etc etc. We need to rework the whole power grid so that every house and transport company can plug into a three phase connection without melting/brining down the power grid. (Think about trucks that have to haul for example 72 tons over long distances.) I agree though we need the best and brightest put to fixing this mess we are in, NOT going into banking, finance or being lawyers but been engineers or scientests. The IPCC said we need an effort similar to WW2 but I think it's bigger than that, it's the biggest (As Roger would probably put it, fucken mess humanity has EVER FACED!)
Over consumption by the rich is the reason we going into overshoot. Far more economical for far more of us to reduce the population of rich people. Far more effective
I have a few questions for XR... How much does this company/rebellion take in each year? How much does it pay these people to protest and lobby? The protesters they find... do they have full time jobs or are they unemployed? Do you not think you are scaring almost brainwashing under age children? and then using them as tools during protests?
The neurobiological part was too simplified. You at least need the Limbic system in addition to the hemispheres to explain motivational dynamics in a basic way.
Evolution or extinction? Are we able to learn to live in harmony with each other, nature and technology including AI? Sustainability not profitability. Mindfulness and self love, respect not exploitation. Our species faces a major die off, the population is passing the peak, passing a tipping point where our population goes from exponential growth to a transition to a new sustainable relationship with the ecosystem that has sustained us up until now. That downward curve can be as steep as a cliff which falls to zero, extinction, or it can begin steeply and recover as it returns to historic levels of sustainability, pre-technology levels such as pre-Columbian America. This could lead to a selection pressure that would produce a new species of hominid, speciation. The curve could be more gentle and could include technological solutions that would level off at a population that could both live more harmoniously with nature and each other and incorporate technology that would represent an evolution into a new species of technologically enhanced humanity, cyborgs. Taking life to other planets, terraforming and evolving new species of humans who could survive other planetary ecologies is another path that will require technologies including genetic engineering to reach for the stars. Managing these changes in a moral and humane way brings hope to a future that appears very scary from our selfish and ethnocentric perspectives. Keep up the good work or as John Perkins says "Dream True" instead of living like the hero of his book "Confessions of an Economic Hitman." Be blessed, you are a blessing. Aboriginal cultures have much to teach us.
You are ngo’ised by the CEF, will they fund you if you actually name capitalism and new solutions, because as much as she says let’s look at history, that means acknowledging the role of left wing ideology. How are xr going to undo the harm they have caused? Make demands for degrowth and criticisms of capitalism official?
To be a subject of the officers, officials, of the global the cult of sovereignty, you must consent to 3 things: 1) agree to be addressed as their title - MISTER, MISS, SIR, MAM, etc. Remember that title is a legal handle to ownership; 2) agree to be their member, citizen, resident; 3) agree to be their registered voter; Without at least one of the above pacts, the uniformed servants of the sovereign are open to a legal charge of involuntary servitude - slavery. One way to communicate with a so-called sovereign is to publish XR, MONOPOLY etc. on sovereign monopoly money. Then, auction your 'newspaper' outside banks, courts and tax collection food retailers. Remember, a statement of sovereignty is not secular.

I can't imagine weather being my biggest problem. Must be nice.
“ The industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race…”
Please leave your BS elsewhere. Climate crisis is not a matter of belief or opinion. It‘s just rock solid science.
Thinking positively is one of the reasons why we're so fucked. Toxic positivity is what I call it.
hi go ahead get them to stop the brazen destruction of our forests in the global south or that doesnt mater to ur myopic mind
Thank you once again Gail !!!! Keep the Rebellion strong ;)xx
Rebellion....just another word for revolution, the overthrowing of the established order with the aim of instituting a revolutionary socialist government !
They say, "It's never ever too late", hope that this time ,this refrain is true.......
What refreshing truths
What next for ER ? Long overdue ridicule for one when finally scientists acknowledge that CO2 is not an AGW villain after all.
well that gets the message across...if you speak the language
Beautiful talk. Smart, Clear, perceptive and human. Tangible reasons for not giving up.
PROBLEM. i watched the video and followed links to join from the email i received - it only connected me to create an Action Network account and the site search engine did not show any XR - being the change group.
We all are carbon based organisms. Stop insulting carbon. It is the foundation of all life on earth. Please be decent humans.
Thank you Gail for continuing to evolve your ideas on what is needed.
Why has it taken 5 years for someone from XR to mention degrowth, land rights and capitalism?? Does this mean you will no longer take billionaires money?
Exactly!!! It's all bullshit talk. XR should start by telling the truth that they've been funded by billionaires themselves.
She won’t. Without capitalism, the freedom she takes for granted and all the money taken she won’t be able to do anything and will vanish pretty fast.
But where is the regenerative community? I have made a start many times and in many ways for most of my adult life. But alone I can do nothing, and others remain alienated, fragmented. It needs to come from others too, and I can't make that happen. I know a few, but we are scattered and busy. Where is it?

Sorry, demon locusts with women's hair sound like BS to me.
Insightful analysis combined with wise, practical advice on the way ahead. Thank you Dr. Bradbrook.
Excellent for the choir but unlikely that will appeal beyond
Love you Gail
🙋❤️❤️❤️
"With Capitalism, some will fall by the wayside. With Socialism, *everyone* falls by the wayside." - matt
It seems intelligence is a curse.
Excellent report
I'm looking forward to her trial at Isleworth Crown Court, London, starting on the 30h of October 2023. She needs to be in either a prison or a secure psychiatric hospital, for her own good and the good of the public.
Hope she goes to prison for years!
Homo sapiens are pretty thick on the whole.
That about sums it up.
Re 16:07 “We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.”

Not sure if it’s just me but the link in the comments for xrisn isn’t working.
SHAME no introduction for a casual browser.. No context, who is the speaker, what was the event? ( ok, i missed the brief intro slide).
Please can someone add that to a description or pinned comment?
very interesting educational inspiring talk. Thanks.
learning takes place when our knowledge bumps up against our ignorance, folks 😁
If you think that the separation she promotes will work, think again. The system is on to her. The only thing it fears is population reduction, as it loses markets & cheap labour. It also fears that per capita resources would increase, and that pollution would decrease without anybody having to do a damn thing, other than gird their loins. But we won’t do that. I wrote “Numbers” to explain why not. Good luck ER, when you catch up I will be waiting. kind regards
I would suggest the climate is speaking for itself.
Every time I try to watch or show any support for climate issues my husband becomes abusive towards me.
Telling you that you are a fool is not abuse.
@@TexMex-eo2lj🤣👍
That's terrible and I feel very sorry for the abuse you are suffering. I am also sorry that there are some mysoginistic idiots trying to forgive the abuse you suffer. They have no idea, probably no feelings either and I expect, they haven't seen the news today and deny that climate change even exists.

Unfortunately, the average age in the hall was about 69. Where are the younger people?
Instagram?
Yeah, that’s not a good sign
"Capitalists embrace personal liberty, hard work and then celebrates the rewards that this brings."
The point is, capitalists don't engage in the authoritarian values that plague religion, socialism and environmentalism.
@@user-qi7ot3vn2y Forgive me, is "Wowzers" some kind of economic term for positive or negative?
Why can't this woman say 'says' properly? Is she a northerner in disguise?
So full of interesting ideas but what exactly is she saying?
Simply, we have a choice, change our World, or watch the planet die.
I agree with Roger completly on a fundamental level, we are on track for extinction!
But the problem is complecated!
We need petorlem products for:
Fertaliser to farm enough food to feed 8 billion people!
Plastics that go into making electric cars!
The energy to procees the metals needed for the energy transition.
etc etc etc.
We need to rework the whole power grid so that every house and transport company can plug into a three phase connection without melting/brining down the power grid. (Think about trucks that have to haul for example 72 tons over long distances.)
I agree though we need the best and brightest put to fixing this mess we are in, NOT going into banking, finance or being lawyers but been engineers or scientests.
The IPCC said we need an effort similar to WW2 but I think it's bigger than that, it's the biggest (As Roger would probably put it, fucken mess humanity has EVER FACED!)
"YURUGU"....omg she went there. Read the book YURUGU.
You lost me at "we are a species that impacts the environment positively"
Tres interessant, et fondamental meme
answer- to reduce the surplus population{the poor}
How can that reduce the CO2 that is already in the air? Enlighten us!
Over consumption by the rich is the reason we going into overshoot. Far more economical for far more of us to reduce the population of rich people. Far more effective
1. Tell the Truth

There is no climate emergency.
What a surprise - they didn’t respond…

The neurobiological part was too simplified. You at least need the Limbic system in addition to the hemispheres to explain motivational dynamics in a basic way.
Assumption is the mother of all feck ups...I think XR need to take this into consideration.
Aboriginal cultures have much to teach us.
wander what the carbon levels were in that room with so many people in it ?
Did anyone die of heat stroke due to it ? 😆
Revelation 11:18
This can only be accomplished through God’s Kingdom. ( Matthew 6:9-10)
To be a subject of the officers, officials, of the global the cult of sovereignty, you must consent to 3 things:
1) agree to be addressed as their title - MISTER, MISS, SIR, MAM, etc. Remember that title is a legal handle to ownership;
2) agree to be their member, citizen, resident;
3) agree to be their registered voter;
Without at least one of the above pacts, the uniformed servants of the sovereign are open to a legal charge of involuntary servitude - slavery.
One way to communicate with a so-called sovereign is to publish XR, MONOPOLY etc. on sovereign monopoly money. Then, auction your 'newspaper' outside banks, courts and tax collection food retailers. Remember, a statement of sovereignty is not secular.
